Being runner-up in Brisbane wasn't exactly the start to the season I had planned, but I can't complain. Australia is still stupidly hot and I feel like I've gone through more sunscreen than tennis balls. And now I feel like Renji is doing scheming about a sunscreen company sponsorship.

Mika and my mom had to head home after Brisbane since my sister starts up school again soon, but mom already agreed that she'd figure out a way to get Mika out of classes so they can come to Paris. I told her that I could talk to the administration. Would they really say no to a former student who won more than a couple of National tennis titles and is also a professional tennis player? I doubt it.

Australia has been great for art. I've done a number of sketches and gotten plenty of use out of my travel watercolor kit. I sent one of the sketchbooks back with my mom so she could drop it off at university for me.

I got the all clear from both doctors and my physical therapist, so in 8 days I'll be in Brisbane. Two days after that, I'll be playing. I'm excited to start a new season. Also, I'm so over training. I want to play in some real matches.

Since Mina is out of classes during the tournament, her and my mom are coming along. Neither have seen me play live in Australia, so I think they'll enjoy it. Unfortunately, my dad couldn't come due to stupid work commitments.

Australian souvenirs, anyone?

Happy birthday, Niou!

I know I've been stringing you along and keeping you in the dark about my plans for your birthday, but the day is here and you don't need to wait any longer. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Schedule )

Mika managed to drag me out of the art studio Saturday afternoon to go to a movie. Well, less a movie and more a viewing of the English National Ballet's "Giselle," choreographed by Akram Khan. It was beautiful and moving. I spent most of Sunday sketching out what I could remember. It's coming back the first week of December, so I might see it again just so I can sit in the back and draw some more.

It's just a little over a month until the Brisbane International tournament. There's this thrum of excitement about playing an entire season again. I know I shouldn't get ahead of myself. One tournament at a time. As much as I'd like to get enough points to qualify for the ATP Finals, I can't push too hard. Even if I wanted to, I have a few people who wouldn't let me. ★~(◠‿◕✿)

Good luck to everyone taking exams!

I finally finished up preparing all my plants and flowers for the upcoming winter. It took a bit longer than I anticipated due to not having a lot of time in between training and spending extra time in the studio on my sculpture projects, but everything's ready for the colder weather.

I've also made some preliminary decisions regarding my first few tournaments next year. I think I'll start in Brisbane, do the Australian, then take a few weeks off before heading to Marseille for the Open 13 Provence. Of course, everything hinges on a couple of doctor's appointments and how I'm feeling around the time I would need to register for the draws.

It's so nice to finish the season with a win. While I'll still be training, of course, there aren't any more tournaments lined up for me this year as I need to focus on school. My first one of the next season will likely be Brisbane if everything lines up appropriately.

Many thanks to everyone who came out to cheer on Akaya, Kite, and myself. It was greatly appreciated.

My plants and flowers are adjusting to the shift in temperature, so I'm seeing less blossoms. I'll start prepping some of them for winter hibernation soon. Speaking of plants, your birthday present is almost ready to be relocated to your place. Remember, it just needs a window that gets some decent sunshine regularly. I'll be most disappointed if it dies in your or Zaizen's care. Mostly yours though.

(occ: based on the fact that i paired yuki's success with medvedev at the beginning of the tournament, he upset nishikori in the final ^_^)

Happy birthday, Akaya!!!

I'm so immensely proud of you and what you've accomplished. ♥

That was the longest match I've ever played and I still lost. I'm annoyed, but not as upset with this outcome as I was with the French Open. Journalists can stop saying my endurance is an issue. I'm pretty sure I proved them wrong with this tournament. Three hours average in these conditions is decent.

I met with a boxing instructor yesterday afternoon to get out some frustration. Yanagi is the absolute best for setting it up. I feel a lot better after the session. I might have to make it a regular thing.

We'll be home tomorrow, so you can come around to my place any time on Monday to get souvenirs.

(ooc: if your character wants a souvenir, you can just make up something random that yuki got for you)

Two matches down, five to go. Training during the heatwave in Tokyo has definitely had its advantages. I'm feeling better here than I did at Wimbledon, playing wise, so I think that's a good sign. My next match is tomorrow. I think it will be the late morning, but times haven't been determined yet. If you can't watch live, there will definitely be a copy if you want to watch later.

Mika decided she wants to go to the MoMA, so we're heading there later today. I'm quite interested in seeing the Impressionists that the museum has on display. I know I won't be disappointed. Plus, it will be a nice break from all of the craziness of the tournament.

If you want any souvenirs, let me know. One of my sister's bags is solely for the things we're bringing back.
gtl_yukimura: (bow down)
Training is great. It's fun. I'm definitely not feeling like sleeping for an entire week. Hard courts are my favorite. It's a wonder I don't train on them more often. I can't wait to start training all over again tomorrow.

Also, I think I'm finally getting the hearing back in my left ear. Once I convinced my parents that my sister would be just fine in New York with me, I told her the news and I remember hearing something shrill then nothing. Needless to say, Mika is downright giddy about the prospect of visiting New York. She even left out the bit about being disappointed it wasn't Paris. Joke's on her as that's what I'm planning to do as her high school graduation gift.

Despite training for the US Open taking up most of my time, I've managed to get the first few layers of paint down on the landscapes I'm doing for class. I don't enjoy using oils, but stepping out of my comfort zone is good for my art. I'm only taking one empty sketchbook with me to New York, so I'm going to be a bit more discerning with what I draw. It's not going to be 80 pages of different views of Central Park, that's for sure.

If you'd like any souvenirs, let me know.

Back home! Well, technically, I got in Monday afternoon, but I needed to get back on Japan time.

And I got back just in time for my second round of exams. I have a meeting with a couple of my professors later today to show them the work I've done while I've been gone. I didn't fill as many sketchbooks as I did while in Paris, but it's still a good amount. The Poison Garden accounted for quite a bit of one. Thankfully I'll have some time after exams and before I leave for New York to finish a few landscape paintings. I've already completed some rough outlines, so once they're reviewed and I get approval, I'll be able to start on them.

I'm not that disappointed in my quarterfinal exit at Wimbledon. I didn't train as much on grass before the tournament as I did playing on clay before the French. I have a bit more time for hard court training before the US Open, so I think, depending on my draw, I should get to at least the quarterfinals again.

[Screened to Yanagi]
Speaking of New York, are you coming with me Renji? I'm looking at hotels already, so I'd like to know your plans.
gtl_yukimura: (in the flowers)
Shiraishi and I went to the Poison Garden before Wimbledon started which was quite interesting. It gave me some ideas on plants I would like to grow at home. It'll be something to research on the way home. Though, I might need to look at getting a bigger place at this rate. One with room for a large garden or greenhouse and then a good sized room with ventilation for art. Even better if I could have a clay court in the backyard... I guess that's something else to look at.

My sister sent some pictures so I could make sure my flowers and plants were doing well in my absence. I'm a bit upset though as one of my flowers blossomed while I wasn't there. I told Mika to carefully clip that one to give to our mom. Of course, I provided instructions to make sure it stayed alive for at least a couple of weeks. Mostly because I want to see it in person.

The quarterfinals are tomorrow. I feel good, but who knows how it will go? I've been surprised by a few of the early round losses.

I am so exhausted. I think the outcome would have been a bit different had I not gone to 5 sets with Tezuka in the semifinal, but I can't be too hard on myself. Losing to Nadal at the French Open in my first tournament since last season is pretty good. I held my own, so no complaints. Plus, it's a huge smack in the face to those who didn't think I could come back. If Serena can do it, so can I.

Our flight home is tomorrow? I can't remember for sure, but it will be nice to go home for a small stretch before flying out to London in a couple of weeks. I thought about just staying here then heading to London, but decided going home would be better.

Why do people have such bad timing when discussing not-so-good things? It's stupid and completely unhelpful. Obviously, you shouldn't talk about bad news when someone is in a good mood, but at least give the other person some time to breathe before having a serious discussion.
gtl_yukimura: (hearts)
Happy birthday to one of my oldest friends! JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE, GENICHIROU!!! ♥ Super wish you were here, so we'll just have to celebrate properly when we get home.

(ooc: Yuki sent him a French-made kimono and a new calligraphy brush)
gtl_yukimura: (laughing)
We're in Paris! A very handsome man picked us up from the airport and then we had dinner before heading to the hotel which is absolutely gorgeous. I decided to splurge a bit since I'll be staying for a few weeks and booked an executive suite with terrace at the Molitor. I could make this my second home. Though, it would likely be less expensive to just purchase an apartment. It's something to consider, at least.

I'm about to head off for some practice then dinner with Renji at one of my favorite restaurants, Palais du Bonheur.

Expect some macarons overnighted to some of you. ♥

(ooc: if you want macarons from Paris, you can say Yukimura sent some to you)
gtl_yukimura: (hearts)
Happy birthday, Marui!

I made a reservation at Alice's Fantasy Restaurant for us on Sunday.

(ooc: yukimura got marui this)
gtl_yukimura: (laughing)
Happy birthday, Kuranosuke!!! Come by the flower shop when you get a chance.

Marui, I'd like to take you out on your birthday. Let me know if you're free. :)

There are only around 5 more weeks until the French Open. I put in my intent to play, so I'll be flying out in about a month to get my body adjusted to the time shift. My coach has been following Yanagi's training exactly. I am incredibly sore. While I've been practicing on clay here, I plan on doing more once I get to Paris, obviously. The clay here just isn't quite the same. Plus, I'm excited to go back to Sadaharu Aoki. They have delicious desserts.

I haven't decided if I'll come back between the French and Wimbledon though. I suppose it comes down to how well I do.

If anyone wants to be my training partner, I'd appreciate it.
gtl_yukimura: (tea)
Tezuka, thank you so much for playing tennis with me. I hope we can play again sometime in the near future. It's good training for me.
gtl_yukimura: (laughing)
We're home. The trip was lovely. Weather was good in both places. Obviously, I'm incredibly proud of Akaya for winning at Indian Wells. Despite losing at the Miami Open, he played brilliantly. His growth is amazing and I know he'll just get better.

I have presents for quite a few of you. Message me what time you'd like to come pick them up. I need to get back on Japan time, so I may not answer right away as I'm going to sleep some.

Notice anything different? )
